Plantar fasciitis Symptoms
Plantar fasciitis symptoms include: mild to severe pain along the arch of one or both feet, usually worst in the morning but less after 30-45 mins of activity, occasionally pain at night.
Causes of plantar fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis can be caused by: overuse due to over training, poor technique while training, running on hard surfaces, prolonged standing, rapid adjustment to a training program, poor biomechanics of feet “flat feet”, short and tight calf muscles, improper footwear and weight gain.
Treatment for Plantar Fasciitis
Treatment for plantar fasciitis involves working directly on the bottom of the foot to break up scar tissue caused by inflammation, treatment to the calf muscles, stretches and and an exercise program. What you can do for plantar fasciitis
The first and most important thing that you can do for plantar fasciitis is to rest from aggravating activities. Along with rest, ice is important to keep the inflammation down, this can be used 2-3x a day, after any aggravating activity and at night being the most important time (click for more info on hot and cold). Calf stretches and strengthening exercises are used alongside massage treatments to achieve best results. Once the condition improves a gradual return with non-weight bearing activities such as biking or swimming is generally recommended to avoid re aggravating it.
With treatment plantar fasciitis will generally resolve within a month or so, though stretches and exercises should be continued for some time after the treatment is completed.
