Massage Therapy is assessment of soft tissue and joints of the body and treatment and prevention of physical dysfunction, injury, pain and disorders of soft tissue and joints of the body by manipulation, mobilization and other manual methods.

What are the benefits of Massage Therapy?

Registered Massage Therapy may help decrease pain, increase sleep, reduce anxiety, improve mobility and shorten recovery time after a Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA). All Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) are trained to work with clients post MVA.

Is Massage painful?

Many people wonder if Massage would be too painful after a car accident and the short answer is no. Massage for Motor Vehicle Accident recovery should not be painful. Some treatments may be a bit uncomfortable, but all treatments are performed within the limits set-out by the client and treatments can always be modified to minimize pain.

Is Massage covered by my insurance?

In BC, most drivers are insured through ICBC. After a Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) most people qualify for medical benefits coverage through ICBC and Registered Massage Therapy is included in this coverage. You will need to speak with your adjuster to confirm coverage before beginning treatment. If you need assistance understanding exactly what your adjuster will cover, or would like us to inquire for you about coverage for Registered Massage Therapy, call us at 250-575-0120.

Do I need a Doctor’s note?

It is recommended that you see your doctor immediately after any Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA), before getting any other treatment.

Even though you should see your doctor before getting any treatment for a MVA, you don’t need a doctor’s note to get insurance coverage for treatment, although it is a good thing to have on file.

Even without a doctor’s note, you can generally still begin treatment with a Registered Massage Therapist.

How soon after the accident can I get massage?

We recommend seeing a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) as soon as possible after an Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA). Massage is often appropriate as early as the day after an MVA.

Not sure if it is too soon after the accident to get massage? We would encourage you to book a treatment and consult with an RMT. Your RMT will either adapt a treatment to suit your needs or let you know if it is too soon to begin treatment. You may benefit from getting treatment earlier rather than later.
