About Justin

Justin first encountered the study of Kinesiology late in high school.  Being a competitive athlete in hockey and soccer as well as recreational snowboarding, mountain biking, skateboarding, and playing rugby throughout his youth, he experienced his share of sports injuries. He was always interested in determining the cause of his injuries, what structures exactly were injured, and furthermore how to fix them to get back to sports! In Grade 12 Exercise Science class he received his first insight to anatomy, physiology and bio-mechanics. This sparked a passion for understanding the human body and how to rehabilitate and improve upon it.

After high school, it was an obvious choice for Justin to enter the Kinesiology program. During his studies at Brock University Justin sought out elective credits in training principles, athletic therapy, care and prevention of injuries, and exercise prescription. After completing training principles in 3rd year he completed the CAN-FIT-PRO personal trainer exams and in 4th year became a personal trainer at the Brock fitness facility. Also in his 4th year, he was a student athletic therapist with the varsity women’s rugby team, athletic therapist assistant in the Brock Athletic Therapy Clinic, and a part of an elderly exercise intervention study at the university. These extremely positive and rewarding experiences reinforced Justin’s passion in the rehabilitation and fitness fields.

Justin was sure he wanted to further his rehabilitative studies by pursuing a Masters of Physical Therapy, but first wanted to gain some varied and valuable working experience. Upon graduating, he has worked as a Kinesiologist/Active Care Specialist in a multidisciplinary physiotherapy clinic, Kinesiologist in a health and wellness resort, Personal Trainer in a large fitness facility, and also internationally as a senior personal trainer in a smaller fitness club in New Zealand. These experiences and his passion for travel and adventure has brought him to Kelowna to further his practice in the rehabilitation and fitness fields before entering UBC’s Master of Physical Therapy program.
