Acute and chronic sports injury rehabilitation, postural syndrome, low back pain, issues finding a pain free exercise program, nutritional consultation, and also improving biomechanics, cardiovascular fitness, strength, and athletic performance are common reasons people come to Renée.
Growing up Renée was very athletic, participating in many sports including volleyball, swimming, basketball, field hockey, and soccer. In high school she was the captain of her soccer team and a very dedicated player. It was during this time that she started experiencing a lot of pain in her knees. Concerned, she went to her doctor for testing and discovered that she had patello-femoral syndrome. Learning about this limitation and how it restricted her athletic performance was the the first spark that ignited her interest in learning about how to rehabilitate the body.
Renée was further inspired while working as a lifeguard and aqua fit instructor. While teaching these classes she witnessed first hand how being in the water improved function and movement, as well as alleviated pain (due to the reduced weight of gravity on joints) for the participants. She began exploring options for education and training that would allow her to help people and she discovered Kinesiology.
She pursued her education at UBCO and attained a Bachelor of Human Kinetics in clinical exercise physiology. Her focus included further study on tissue & injury repair, in depth body musculature and anatomy knowledge, advanced nutrition & its application to sport, as well as ergonomics for the workplace. Renée firmly believes in pairing nutrition (assessments & counseling) with physical, corrective exercise training. She has experienced her own limitations (lactose & gluten intolerance) and advocates firmly that good health starts in the kitchen!
