What is Deep Tissue Massage?
Deep tissue massage is a style of massage that uses deep pressure to break down scar tissue, increase blood flow and relax tense muscles. Because a lot of pressure is used deep tissue massage has the potential to be painful it is important that you keep open communication with your Registered Massage Therapist (RMT). If the pressure is too much, let your RMT know. There is no set rule for what pressure to use, it is generally accepted that whatever feels best for you is the right pressure for you. It is important to note that deep tissue massage is not for everyone! Some people respond very well to it, other people don’t respond well (or enjoy the experience) at all. All of our RMT’s are trained in a variety of techniques so keep in mind if you do ask for deep tissue massage you always have the option of switching to a less aggressive technique mid treatment.
What is Deep tissue massage used for?
Generally, deep tissue massage is used for athletes who are looking to recover faster from their workouts or recover from certain injuries, for stress relief, and for pain and stiffness from stress or overuse.
